The growing need for mental health support in Israel has become more pressing than ever. Recent Knesset discussions revealed that while plans have been made to expand balancing homes—community-based therapeutic frameworks offering a humane and rehabilitative alternative to psychiatric hospitalization—challenges persist. Out of the required 45 million NIS budget, only 35 million NIS has been allocated, leaving a significant funding gap of 10 million NIS.
These homes provide a critical service to individuals dealing with severe mental health crises. Currently, there are only 26 operational balancing homes across the country, including those dedicated to eating disorders and post-trauma care. However, long waiting lists reflect the urgent need to expand these vital services.
At Serenity Center, we are committed to being part of the solution. That’s why we are proud to announce the opening of our new balancing home in Pardes Meshutaf 65, Raanana. This facility is designed to provide immediate care for individuals in crisis, offering a safe, supportive, and community-based environment to foster healing and recovery.
Balancing homes are a proven alternative to institutional psychiatric hospitalization, promoting dignity, longer recovery periods, and fewer readmissions. In light of the recent war and its far-reaching psychological impacts, the need for these homes has grown exponentially. Security personnel, rescue teams, and civilians alike are seeking immediate support, and it is essential that solutions are accessible to all.
At Serenity Center, we offer:
- Therapeutic Support: Professional care in a warm, home-like environment.
- Community Integration: An alternative to hospitalization that encourages personal growth and community involvement.
- Rehabilitation and Recovery: Focused on long-term healing and reintegration into society.
We urge the government and relevant bodies to continue investing in the expansion of balancing homes and to address the funding challenges quickly. Mental health care is not just a necessity—it’s a fundamental right.
